Chopsy Blog: When did it become legal to drive on pavements?
Somewhere in Bristol, a family is having the worst kind of day. The kind of day that makes you think about your own family. The bus was behind an ambulance attending a road traffic incident in Brislington. Judging by the BEC pupils gathered by the roadside on bikes, and the huge, tragic looking shape entirely covered by blankets in the middle of the road, it was every parent’s worst nightmare.
But where using roads always presents an element of risk, I am getting absolutely fed up with selfish idiot drivers who keep driving along, onto and using pavements.
Sandy Park Road in Bristol is dreadful for this. It’s a road with some traditional shops left on it.
This means that as well as huge lorries and vans delivering stock, you also get the lazy arses who can’t be bothered with parking legally – even though there is a free car park – and just drive up on the the pavement to park too. Sometimes, they even drive at you, expecting you to move into the road.
I’m not entirely sure at what point driving on the pavement because legalised. But pedestrians should not be put at further risk before they even step foot onto the road.
And yes, I did kick the back of the delivery van door to get the pram through.
