Clevedon Resident Aims to Raise Money for Parkinson’s UK with Zip Line Stunt

A North Somerset woman will be celebrating her 80th birthday this year by taking part a daring zip line stunt.

Clevedon resident Margaret Flux, will be taking on Europes fastest and longest zip line at Velocity Zip World in Wales on Thursday 12 April.

Margaret and her daughter Kate (55) are taking on the challenge to raise £10000 for Parkinson’s UK after Margaret’s Sister-in-law was diagnosed with the condition.

There is no cure for Parkinson’s, which is a degenerative neurological condition. Those with it experience tremor, slowness of movement and rigidity. It affects 145,000 people in the UK, which is one adult in every 350.

Parkinson’s UK is the UK’s leading charity which find a cure through supporting cutting edge research as well as supporting those with the condition with information, support and running awareness campaigns.

“My sister-in-law was diagnosed with Parkinson’s about 15 years ago,” Margaret said. “Since her diagnosis her Parkinson’s has got progressively worse and she’s now living in a care home.

“Life is so dreadfully unfair, so I’ve decided to take on the zip line and do my bit to help. By fundraising for Parkinson’s UK I’ll be helping to make a difference to the lives of people with Parkinson’s, as well as funding research to help find a cure.

“I hope that celebrating my 80th birthday with this challenge will prove that an older lady like me is not over the hill and still has plenty left to give to life!”
