Council pledge to protect Bristol’s Green Belt

Bristol City Council have pledged to protect the existing Green Belt within Bristol’s boundaries.

The promise to protect the land from housing development for the next 12 years comes in its newly published planning strategy and policies for Bristol’s future development.

The Bristol Development Framework will also extend the obligation of developers to provide affordable housing.

Regeneration is planned for run down areas in South Bristol and St Phillips with 30,000 new homes by 2026.

Assistant Executive Member for Sustainability, Councillor Neil Harrison, said: “The Core Strategy is a vital document for driving forward our vision for Bristol. We want the city to be in the vanguard of green and sustainable development, while also recognising the need for additional affordable homes and continued economic competitiveness.”
