Crips Against Cuts Protest in Bristol Against Cuts to Disability Benefits
The protest included a Die-In that took place in Broadmead
‘Welfare not warfare’ was one of the messages Disabled people in Bristol called for this weekend.
They were campaigning in Broadmead, as part of Crips Against Cuts, a grassroot organisation calling on the government to stop cuts to vital disability support.
Crips Against Cuts says the “cuts will push people further into poverty and mean many lose their lives, their care and their dignity.”

Following a rally of speakers, the protestors held a ‘Die-In’ representing people who had already died as a result of government policy affecting Disabled people.
As part of the “memorial speech” one of the protestors unraveled a list of victims up to the year 2015.
A Crips Against Cuts Bristol protestor said: “The system is broken, people are dying, people are dead. We stand here today for those who couldn’t. For those who have died. For those who are no longer able to fight. For people who didn’t have protection and justice. We honour them by continuing the fight. We honor them to stop more lives from being lost. We fight in their names because they no longer can.”
