CSA figures for Bristol
The beleaguered Child Support Agency (CSA) has managed to collect or arrange £105.9 million in child maintenance in the South West over the past 12 months.
The money collected will go to 71,400 parents with care in the region.
In Bristol, the CSA collected £6,357,800 between April 2008 and March 2009.
The CSA is now the responsibility of the Child Maintenance and Enforcement Commission (CMEC) .
In 2011, the CMEC will finally replace the two existing older schemes under the CSA.
Since the end of 2008, separated parents have been free to chose the maintenance arrangements that fit their circumstances, and benefit applications no longer mean an automatic application to the CSA.
The CSA will remain in use until all of its cases have been closed and parents have been invited to the new scheme.
It is anticipated that the process will take until 2014 to complete.
