Dads lose out on baby names
Dads lose out when it comes to naming the baby reveals a new parent poll.
According to a survey of 3000 parents by website BabyCentre, 62 per cent of polled dads claim their ideas were totally rejected by their partner with 8 per cent saying every suggestion they made was ignored.
Some 31 per cent of dads just admitted defeat and accepted a name that wasn’t their favourite, and 36 per cent of those did this just to have an easy life.
The poll also showed that dads weren’t going to give up hope entirely with 15 per cent thinking that by giving in on the first child they would get to choose the name of any future children.
BabyCentre.co.uk editor Sasha Miller said: “It’s a shame that choosing a name for your baby causes such friction in relationships but perhaps that’s not surprising. If you think that the right name is going to contribute to your child’s success then the
pressure’s really on.
“The problem for dads is really that the mums hold the trump card. During pregnancy and labour mum is the one doing all the work. So she’ll often tell her partner that the least he can do is let her choose the name. And many dads feel they can’t deny her that.”
