Don’t become a victim of crime at Glastonbury warn police

One of the South West’s biggest events is already just around the corner and Avon and Somerset Police are urging festival goers to be prepared.

The Glastonbury Festival taking place at Pilton in East Somerset this June draws crowds of around 177,000 people every year.

The police are already starting to offer crime and safety advice for those attending the event.

The police believe that crime at the festival is very low, with around 99.7 per cent of festival-goers not becoming victims.

From the Operational Planning team at Avon and Somerset Police, Sergeant Carolyn Crocker said: “We are aware that plenty of people are beginning to plan for their trip to Somerset in June. We’d like to remind people planning for the festival to consider property and personal safety within their preparations.

“Crime is low at Glastonbury and the majority of crime that does occur can be easily prevented. The best advice for not having your valuables stolen while at the festival is not to take them with you but if you do have to take them with you make sure they are stored securely.”

Police are advising festival-goers to plan what they are taking to event and leave valuables behind.

If this is not possible, they are advising people to register them on the Immobilise database ahead of the festival or make use of the free lock-ups around the site.

As the festival causes much of the South West countryside to go into lock down with roads in the surrounding areas closed, the police are also advising people to use public transport where possible and make preparations to be stuck in heavy traffic.
