Doors open at Bristol's museums


Museums in Bristol will be throwing their doors open to the public in style this weekend as they celebrate the annual Doors Open Day.

Visitors will be able to see a different aspect to its sites with behind the scenes tours and activities.

Kings Weston Roman Villa

11am-4pm

Visitors can explore Bristol’s only remaining Roman Villa and meet the curators who look after it. Try a Roman inspired food, discover which plants would have been used in Roman cooking and take away recipes to recreate at home. Younger visitors can take a fun fact-finding trail around the site. Kurt Adams our Portable Antiquities Officer will also be at the Villa to identify any objects you have found in your gardens. There will be a special free bus service, taking passengers from Bristol City Centre to the Villa.

Blaise Castle Estate
Henbury
There will be demonstrations of traditional butter making in the thatched dairy next to the 18th century mansion house.

Bristol’s City Museum & Art Gallery
Behind-the scenes tours will be held that reveal the secrets of the buildings magnificent Edwardian baroque architecture. Bookable on the day at reception.

Harbourside
The  popular harbour steam train will be running. The train will depart from the ss Great Britain on the harbourside every 40 minutes between 11am-5pm

Prices are £3 return £2 single. Under 6s Free. Ss Great Britain ticket holders receive £1 off. There will be additional trips on Sunday 13 September.
