East Bristol Whitehall Primary School Creates 200 New School Places

Whitehall Primary School: An East Bristol primary school has expanded its admissions capacity to cater for the school place demand in the area.

More than 200 new school places have been added to Whitehall Primary School, expanding its capacity by a third and adding 30 extra places for children in each year group.

The expansion was able to take place by transforming the nearby pavilion on Packers Field into three new classrooms, facilities and teaching space

An additional two-storey building opposite the pavilion was erected to provide another six new classrooms and specialist learning areas. It connects to the pavilion by a first floor bridge.

The new building also contains a large hall which can be hired for use by the local community.

Headteacher at Whitehall Primary School, Sarah Allen said: “The local community has been very supportive of our expansion. The Edwardian building, which houses an enormous concert hall with stage, has an interesting history and has been used by those who have lived and worked in Whitehall for many years, we are so delighted that this can continue. Our school has been transformed by the works and the light, modern teaching spaces will be enjoyed by generations to come.”

Whitehall Primary School has recently been exploring opportunities to academise with seven other Bristol schools to form a multi academy trust as the Bristol Primary Collaborative Academy Trust.
