Eat breakfast to boost the diet

Eating breakfast cereal helps weight loss according to new research.

The new study from Oxford Brookes University has concluded that eating breakfast cereal for at least one meal a day results in significant and sustained weight loss.

During trials, 41 overweight people ate cereal as well as eating and drinking normally throughout the rest of the day.

By the end of the second week 85 per cent of people had lost weight.

Independent nutritionist Lynne Garton said: “The results of this study are very interesting and further evidence of the benefits of breakfast cereals as part of a weight management programme.

“Breakfast cereals are easy to incorporate into the diet and can contain substantial amounts of fibre, iron, folic acid and zinc as well as being low in fat. The fact that cereal is so tasty is a big bonus because people are more likely to stick to this simple dietary change.”
