Crew Capers Storytelling As part of Bristol Storyfest 2014, resident storyteller Sarah Mooney brings true stories from the ss Great Britain’s crew vividly and vivaciously to life. These 20 minute free sessions are perfect for pre-schoolers; there is no need to book but capacity is limited to 100 people per session.
Daily from Monday 17 February
Horse & Gig The Great Western Dockyard, surrounding the ship, is designed to be reminiscent of how the docks would have looked in Victorian times; with authentic and recreated items bringing history to life. The latest addition is a classic horse and cart which people can climb onto for great photo opportunities.
Crew do you think you are? (Daily) Using an activity wheel, which can be collected from the Visitor Centre, guests can find out which member of the ss Great Britain’s crew they would have been by completing entertaining challenges. Whether a captain, a cook, an engineer or a sailor these tasks help make the most of a visit by encouraging thorough exploration of the ship, the museum and the dockside.
From the Saturday 15 February
New Children’s Menu. Starting in half term, the Dockyard Cafe Bar will be offering reduced portions of the main menu, as well as a dedicated children’s menu including sausage and mash, pasta in tomato sauce and fish cakes. It will be open daily from 10:00am – 4:30pm (9:30am – 5:30pm over the summer) serving hot and cold food and drink and cakes, which are freshly baked on board the ship.
