Fire at BRI Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre Accidental

Fire at BRI Bristol: A fire that started at Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre in Kingsdown last night has been called ‘accidental’ by Avon Fire and Rescue.

Cancer patients were evacuated in the early hours of this morning at the building located behind the BRI.

Multiple crews attended to reports of smoke bellowing from the building which had triggered alarms.

Avon Fire and Rescue say: “Firefighters in breathing apparatus entered the building searching for the fire, which was located on the ground floor of the six floor building, in the plant room.

“Multiple Co2 extinguishers and safety jets were used to extinguish the fire and patients were evacuated from the building by firefighters and hospital staff and taken to the nearby heart institute building.

“Once the patients were evacuated, firefighters worked to ventilate each of the rooms on the six floors of the building ensuring they were clear of smoke.

“The cause of the fire is thought to be accidental.”
