Free healthy lifestyle programme for Bristol families

Bristol families looking for practical advice and support to eat more healthily are being invited to join a new lifestyle programme.

Family, Food and Fun, is a new ten-week programmes aimed at families with children aged between five and twelve who could be a healthier weight.

The free programme has been developed by Bristol City Council and NHS Bristol.

It aims to involve whole families looking to become more active and achieve and maintain a healthy weight.

Public health consultant at NHS Bristol, Dr Angela Raffle said: “In Bristol at the age of 11, one in three children are overweight or at risk of becoming obese. We can’t just stand back and let this trend continue. The reason for this is that everyday outdoor activities such as playing, walking and cycling are in danger of becoming a thing of the past.

“Added to that are the changes to our food culture, with heavily processed high calorie food being promoted to children and ‘anytime, anywhere’ eating being sold as ‘normal’.”

Each session lasts for 90 minutes and involves activities, practical workshops and games.

The first programme starts this January with more planned for May.
