Help your child learn how to make 999 calls

It’s a vital life lesson for children and yet something that is overlooked by so many parents.

Teaching young children to dial 999 in an emergency will help save lives and it’s an initiative being backed by the full force of Mumsnet.

Nine million calls to 999 are made by people in the UK every year, but in a survey of nearly 800 Mumsnet members, 37 per cent had not taught their children how to dial 999.

A 53 per cent said it had not occurred to them to even teach the skill.

The parents who had taught their children how to contact emergency services felt confident their children would know when to use it.
