History England Angel Awards Open Which Bristol Landmark is Worthy?

Bristol has plenty of historic landmarks and a great many listed buildings. The redevelopment of the city centre has made the city almost unrecognisable in the last ten years. Much of its success comes from retaining original industrial buildings and crafting them into successful homes or businesses.

The Historic England Angel Awards 2018 has just opened and is looking for entrants from people who have rescued a historic building or monument. They are especially interested in heritage rescues, where private owners have saved a local landmark, or turned a neglected historic building back into use.

People across the UK have from now until Sunday 03 June 2018 to enter their project.

Chief Executive of Historic England, Duncan Wilson said: “These awards celebrate the many thousands of volunteers and organisations around England who take on challenging rescue projects. Those who look after our spectacular historic environment and go above and beyond the call of duty deserve proper recognition. The historic buildings and places all around us that tell the stories of who we are can play a big part in the lives of communities. Many of these precious places need years of repair and conservation to achieve once again their former glory. I encourage everyone with a passion for caring for their local heritage to enter these awards, and with the new categories for 2018, I’m looking forward to hearing about exciting new heritage rescues.”

The awards are judged by a panel of experts and chaired by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Judges this year will include historian Bettany Hughes, TV’s Restoration Man George Clarke, the Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall and Historic England’s Chief Executive Duncan Wilson.
