Hundreds of new jobs for Bristol port

More than 500 new jobs could soon be created in Bristol after the Government approved a new terminal at the Port of Bristol.

The new deep sea terminal will be created alongside existing facilities at Avonmouth on land reclaimed from the River Severn.

It will allow some of the world’s largest container ships to dock which are currently unable to do so at the narrow lock of Avonmouth docks.

Regional Minister for the South West, Jim Knight said: “This is great news not just for Bristol and the region but the country as a whole. A new deep sea terminal will be a great boost to the city’s infrastructure and historical global links. This project will create an estimated 500 jobs in the first instance and I am confident that figure will only increase as more trade comes into Bristol through the terminal in the future.”
