Keep it Simple in the sun

Simple, has launched a new sun range using antioxidants Sunflower and Green Tea, with products suitable for all ages and skin types.

Simple Sun Sensitive Protection products are photostable, meaning that UVA and UVB protection is maintained between applications. The Kids and Baby range protects whilst swimming for up to 40 minutes.

On two of the hottest days of the year, we took Simple Kid’s and Baby Sun Sensitive Protecting Suncare Lotion SPF50 to Weston Super Mare beach, and Hengrove Play Park, Bristol.

Both locations offer little to nothing in the way of shade, and both are huge family magnets.

Both products offer high protection and both contained Sunflower extract to help the skin’s natural protection against the sun, and Pro-Vitamin B5 to actively restore, soften and smooth the skin.

Emma Waverly tested out the Kid’s product on four year old Ben, and three year old Hannah on Weston beach.

“This was the day that we were stepped up to level three heatwave alert. On Weston sands it was so hot it was almost too much. I really did worry about both my children as there wasn’t any shade and both were running in and out of sea water the colour of poo.

“I applied the sun protection all over both of them. I used plenty of it so they were white. The high protection is really the only suitable level for children’s skin in my opinion, and I would rather we had a streaky white covering then potential skin damage.

“I also used it on my own skin. I could feel that the block was a very thick barrier and I couldn’t understand how hot sweaty skin could cope with that layer of thickness but it did.

“None of us got burnt, though both my children did have a healthy glow afterwards. It is difficult to be fair when they are in and out of water, and you have to apply the block quite regularly.

“Overall, I was impressed that we were not actually burnt to a crisp, such was the level of ferocity of the sun that day. The product did its job well and I would definitely buy it myself.”

Holly Anne Michaels took her baby with her to Hengrove Park in Bristol on an equally hot day.

“While my three year old Jacob was running around with his little friends, I was trying to keep my six month old baby Olivia, as shaded as possible. That is quite hard as there are not many places to keep out the sun there.

“I know babies shouldn’t be in the sun but in this weather you don’t have any choice. You have to use as much protection as possible. I had her in sun hats and with parasols but I was glad to try out this sun cream too.

“I was worried about it at first because it is very thick and I tested on myself as I can be quite allergic at times. I didn’t have any problems so I put it on Livvie and Jacob.

“Neither of them had any problems and neither of them really caught the sun. I don’t think you can rely totally on these kinds of products you need to use them as a back up to properly dressed children. You still have to be sensible with everything else your child wears, but I think this lotion did a good job.”
