Kids do benefit from school activity sessions

Schoolchildren do benefit from sports and physical activity in primary school, according to medical researchers.

Findings by researchers in Switzerland, published on the British Medical Journal website today, reveals that a well structured activity programme during school time can improve children’s fitness and decrease body fat.

An optimum programme revolved around five PE lessons a week as well as daily short activity breaks and physical activity homework.

The researchers say the study offers a practical way of solving childhood obesity as many children do not respond to programmes during time out of school.
