Make sure you buy a genuine Ergobaby Carrier and not a Dangerous Fake
Fake baby goods are posing a real danger to families with their substandard production and failure to comply with safety requirements.
One such brand whose high quality products have become victim to counterfeiters are Ergobaby.
MD of Ergobaby’s UK distributors Clever Clogs, Joanne O’Grady says: “Unlike say, purchasing a fake handbag, there are real concerns over the safety of these counterfeit carriers. The baby industry has gone to great lengths to ensure the highest safety standards for all baby products but these unscrupulous websites are selling products to unwitting consumers that could pose a real risk to their babies.
“Unfortunately some of these websites look very plausible but we have some easy checks for consumers to follow when making their purchase to give them the confidence that the product they are buying is an authentic, genuine Ergobaby carrier.”
Ergobaby has been calling for the Trading Standards Institute to close down websites known to be selling fake carriers.
The Ergobaby carrier features excellent comfort and ergonomic design for both carrier and baby. The brand was founded in the US in 2003 and its popularity has soared.
The price for the Ergobaby carrier is around the £100 mark, with most suppliers being independent traders in high quality baby goods.
This has prompted parents to reach for the internet in a bid to find competitive prices.
Because of this more than 60 sites have so far been identified by Ergobaby as selling poor quality fake copies.
Ergobaby has the following advice for parents and carers looking to purchase a genuine carrier.
1. Make sure you purchase your Ergobaby carrier from an authorised Ergobaby stockist. All Ergobaby’s UK stockists will display an authorised stockist logo. Where you see this logo, you are assured you are dealing with the genuine article. An example of the logo can be seen on stockist Peppermint’s website. A full list of Ergobaby authorised stockists can be found at www.cleverclogstrading.co.uk or www.facebook.com/ergobabyuk
2. If buying on-line, check also that the website has a clearly stated returns and warranty policy with a UK based address/ point of contact. All authorised Ergobaby stockists offer a 2 year warranty – if this is not clearly stated on the site, don’t buy
3. Be aware that search engines do not pre-screen websites that appear in their search results. Be cautious of websites that appear on Google, Bing or other engine searches for ‘Ergobaby’ or similar keywords/ searches, especially when the brand name is linked with the words ‘sale’, ‘discount’ and ‘cheap’
4. Finding heavily discounted or low prices through search engines or on seemingly authentic Ergobaby sites is often a good indication that a product is counterfeit. If it seems too good to be true, it usually is
5. Beware of sites where the images are of poor quality or slightly blurred. An authentic stockist should have clear, crisp images of Ergobaby products
