Maternity notes could go digital

Those familiar yellow maternity notes could be going high tech in the future.

A new electronic data capture system with digital pens, could be used instead of traditional methods to keep track of women’s pregnancies.

The new system – E-Preginfo – digitises pregnancy notes, meaning that community midwives can save time inputting data straight into an electronic records system.

Professor Jason Gardosi, director at the Perinatal Institute says: “The solution will offer considerable savings – potentially £24 of clinical time per pregnancy, which with 680,000 births across the UK annually amount to a potential saving to the Health Service of £16m per annum.”
