Motorway switch off warning
Bristol drivers are being reminded that a stretch of Bristol motorway will have no lighting from this Thursday.
The blackout is part of a move to cut carbon emissions and light pollution.
The switch off will affect Junction 21 and 22 of the M4 from Thursday midnight until 5am.
All motorway junctions will remain lit, and the Highways Agency are confident with the safety record of this stretch of motorway.
It is expected that a 40 per cent saving in carbon emissions and energy will be saved and local communities will benefit from the reduced lighting.
Timing devices on the roadside will control the switch off, but this can be overridden by the highways Agency’s Regional Control Centre for the South West.
