MS Diagnosis for Young People Increasing But Support is Lacking

Young people newly diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) say they aren’t getting the information and support they desperately need.

Around 100 people are diagnosed with MS every week and new research finds that there’s increasing numbers of young people – aged 20 and under – being diagnosed than every before.

A staggering 70 per cent are experiencing MS symptoms whilst still in their teens, with symptoms ranging from extreme tiredness and vision problems.

But findings from the MS Trust also shows that 75 per cent of young people feel confused and frightened by the information they’ve found out about the condition. They find it frustrating mainly because most of the things they read were geared towards much older people.

The MS Trust is trying to reach this younger, isolated demographic and have just launched a new YouTube channel. The launch also coincides with MS Awareness Week which runs this week from 23 – 29 April.
