Mums in Business: Bright Starters
Many mums buy into a franchise business as a way of working for themselves. It is very tempting to put money into an established successful business model.
Katie Sarl has gone one better. She runs a franchise company called Bright Starters, specialising in teaching very young children to read from birth.
The Bright Starters classes offer a complete structured literacy, language and communications programme for children age six months to six years.
As well as parents getting involved in classes to help their children socialise and develop essential skills, other parents take advantage of the extra private tutoring.
Having only set up in May this year, Katie has already been busy selling franchises to others who are keen to get involved in teaching pre-school literacy.
“Believe it or not there are lots of activities parents can do with their babies and toddlers which can significantly improve their success in learning to read at school” says Katie. “For instance, it is very important to get babies to crawl as this helps with cross patterning a skill that is vital for reading. In our classes we teach children using a multi-sensory approach according to their learning style incorporating a wide range of craft activities, Sensory Play, Music, Movement, Dance and Games.”
The Bright Starter Programme has taken more than three years to write and thousands of pounds to produce. It was founded by ex-primary head teacher and OFSTED inspector Eve Wilson, who has more than 40 years experience teaching more than 1000 children to read.
Eve designed the Bright Starter Curriculum in response to parent’s requests for advice on supporting their children at school.
