New campaign to inform about contraception

Young people are to be helped with making informed decisions about their choice of contraception.

The Department of Health has launched a new campaign to help young people look after their sexual health and avoid unwanted pregnancies.

Aimed at 16 to 24 year olds and their parents, the first phase of the campaign, Contraception, Worth Talking About will tackle lack of knowledge and misinformation surrounding current sexual health awareness.

Bristol South MP and Children’s Minister, Dawn Primarolo said the campaign would help young people to talk to their family and friends to feel confident about making choices right for them,

Dawn said: “Through compulsory sex education at school and health advice to teenagers, we are supporting young people to delay early sex, and to make sure they use effective contraception when they do start having sex. This is vital if we are to keep teenage pregnancy rates on their downward trend, and to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted infections.”
