New mums cut maternity leave short to ‘make ends meet’

The news that Tax Credits are to be axed for families earning more than £25,000 per year has not been welcomed by new mothers forced to ditch maternity leave and return back to work due to debt and financial concerns.

According to uSwitch.com, around one in ten mothers are having to cut their maternity leave short in order to make ends meet.

Whilst on maternity leave, the average family finds their household income drops by around 34 per cent, with around 41 per cent of mums  running up an average debt of £1,329 during this time.
