Now booking: Bristol Old Vic christmas show Swallows and Amazons

For many mums, the mere thought or sounding of the word Christmas is enough to make them fly off of the handle, but tickets for Bristol Old Vic’s family Christmas show are now on sale.

Continuing in the spirit of bringing a young, modern, accessible feel to much of the new work being performed at the theatre, this year’s show is to be a musical adaptation of the classic children’s adventure story Swallows and Amazons.

With rehearsals taking place all of last week, the show’s director Tom Morris said:  “Bristol Old Vic is all about experimenting and trying out ideas. It seemed totally right that we continue in this spirit of playful experimentation to work on Swallows and Amazons and see what ideas will stand out as something we develop further when rehearsals begin properly in October.”

Aimed to appeal to families who love their stories packed with piracy, fun and adventure, the show is aiming to take children back to a time where it was safe to play, sail and run around freely without an adult or paedophile in site.
