Our City Bristol Book Launch Fills Waterstones
The new book about Bristol is now available to buy
A brand new book about inclusion, community campaigning and city planning in Bristol during the city’s ill-fated mayoral system, was officially launched at Bristol Waterstones last night.
Our City: Community activism in Bristol, features campaigns and activists who investigated and championed a specific cause or issue in the city.
Taking to the mic at Waterstones on Union Street, several of the book’s contributors spoke to their chapter, lending additional context to the work.
Some of the speakers included Helen Powell for We Love Stoke Lodge, Vassili Papastavrou for Saving Bristol’s Urban Trees, Richard Jones for Ursa The Bear, Joe Banks on the St Mary le Port development and Joanna Booth on the Bristol Arena project.
There were key themes repeating through all of the speakers despite their different subjects. This included a lack of transparency, difficulties dealing with Bristol City Council, back-room deals and barriers put up against access to information.
Suzanne Audrey is the editor of the book, bringing together the wide range of contributors, packing out The Galleries branch of Waterstones on a very inclement night.
