Parents admit to spending £545 on their child’s birthday

Parents are splashing the cash and making a big deal of their child’s birthday.

American Express ran a study to coincide with Princess Charlotte’s first birthday today, which revealed an average birthday spend to be £545.

Gifts are one of the biggest expense, with an average of £122 being spent on the birthday child.

But parties and their ensuing costs are also pretty pricey.

Entertainment came in at £94, party food £91, hiring the venue £90, party bags £62 and some even go to the trouble of new outfits for the day at £85.
