Passengers too embarrassed to complain about their drivers drinking
Passengers are being urged to stand up to drink drivers this Easter weekend, as new research finds they are too embarrassed to make a fuss.
According to the THINK! Easter Drink-Drive campaign, 30 per cent of people said they would get into a car with a driver who was over the limit if it were an emergency or there was no other way for them to get home.
Transport Minister Robert Goodwill said that it was worrying a ‘significant’ number of people felt too shy to speak out at drink drivers.
He said: “Everyone knows that drinking and driving is not only against the law, it’s extremely dangerous. It may well be the responsibility of drivers to ensure they don’t do it, but passengers can also discourage drinking and driving by speaking out.”
