Police drink drive campaign continues to be successful
A Christmas drink-drive campaign being run by the Avon and Somerset Police, has led to the arrest of 137 people in three weeks.
Since launching on the first of December, Operation Tonic has stopped more than 21,000 motorists and breathalysed 3,000 people.
According to Chief Inspector Polly King, motorists have been pleased that police are cracking down on the law breakers who put so many people’s lives at risk.
Advising motorists she said: “We advise that you don’t have anything to drink before you get behind the wheel as even a small amount of alcohol can impair your driving ability. It is impossible to calculate your drink-driving limit, as it depends upon a number of factors including your gender and body mass, so please don’t try.”
The operation is continuing to run across the South West, targeting hot-spot areas and rat runs.
If you suspect someone of drink-driving please call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 or the Avon and Somerset Police non-emergency number on 0845 456 7000 – remember you could be saving a life.
