Poorly prepared for parenthood fathers claim

UK dads don’t appear to be prepared for parenting, with 46 per cent saying they were ignored by maternity services and 57 per cent saying antenatal classes don’t prepare them for fatherhood.

Though new laws were introduced on 03 April 2011 allowing fathers to take over the second six months of maternity leave, 54 per cent of dads said they didn’t realise this.

The survey by Ocado and Fatherhood Institute also found that 75 per cent of those taking part thought it was easier to go to work than look after a newborn baby.
