Potty mouthed parents teach kids bad language

Two-thirds of parents allow their children to swear without punishment leaving just one in three reprimanding their children for swearing in their presence.

The new research asked 2,241 people their attitudes to swearing in society, particularly with regards to children.

Dads are worst for swearing, with 84 per cent of them admitting to the practice, compared to 75 per cent of mums. Though nine in ten parents witnessed their child swearing, only 34 per cent punished them for it. The most common punishment was ‘taking items away from their children.

The top five swear words sworn by children were:

1. f*ck heard by 42 per cent of parents

2. Sh*t witnessed by 36 per cent of parents

3. Cr*p was audible to 31 per cent of parents

4. B*stard was uttered in front of 28 per cent of parents

5. But never mind the Bollocks, as this was only spoken in front of 22 per cent of parents.

Perhaps children were picking up the potty mouth words from their parents, of whom 93 per cent in total swore in front their child.

The research was commissioned by www.Nulon-uk.com, the company behind the recently launched-to-the-UK engine starter, “Start YaBastard”.

CEO of Nulon UK William Findlay said: “A previous study we commissioned found that the average Briton swears 14times a day, meaning that it’s highly likely that at least one of these will be in front of children, maybe their own.

“The results speak for themselves, showing that children whose parents swear in front of them are much more likely to swear. I think that as a nation, Britain needs to either cut down on our bad language in front of children, or be more willing to ensure our kids don’t follow suit, at least within earshot. It’s a matter of respect from both parties, and the fact is, kids will swear, especially when they feel there will be no repercussion.”
