Pregnant women dying from substandard experts say

More doctors and specialist training is needed to prevent pregnant women dying from “substandard care”.

According to editorial published in the British Medical Journal by Catherine Nelson-Piercy at King’s College London, ‘urgent action’ is needed to stop the “worrying trend in the causes of maternal mortality in the UK.”

There has been a significant reduction in the number of pregnant women dying in the UK since the 1950s, but medical conditions affecting women before becoming pregnant can be complex and  there is an increase in the numbers of older mothers who need expert care.
