Pregnant women stay in to avoid slips
One in four pregnant women said they have stayed in this week for fear of falling over, and of those who did venture out shopped locally to avoid getting stuck in the snow.
The survey carried out this week for the Dairy Council revealed that 26 per cent of families have had children miss school and 18 per cent of adults miss work due to the inclement weather. With more snow through the week the figures are set to rise.
Brislington mum to be Lindsay Bay said: “There are lots of hilly roads in this area and it is so difficult to walk down them without sliding. I’m eight months pregnant and it’s hard enough to balance as it is. I was holding on to walls and fences and just taking one step at a time. I’m really worried I will slip, but I still need to get out shopping and stuff.”
In the survey milk was the top item that people would venture out to buy no matter what the weather, with one in five people buying this from a local shop instead of their usual supermarket.
