A baby will generally start to teeth once you have established the perfect night time routine. Usually starting anytime from three to six months, babies can teeth with most of their bodies.

Discomfort, irritablity, difficulty settling at night and a hand permenantly planted in the mouth are excellent signs that teeth are on the way.

Boots Parenting Club Health Visitor Angela Davey says: “They may have a red cheek on the side of their face from which they are teething, and chew enthusiastically on anything they can get into their mouths. Babies experiencing painful teething episodes may have sore gums, cry more than normal, be less hungry than usual and may even have diarrhoea, as teething can affect their whole body, not just their mouth. They may also have a temperature, runny nose and a sore bottom.”

Boots Sugar Free Teething Gel 3 Months Plus, is an antiseptic pain relieving gel designed to quickly relieve sore gums. Do not use on children younger than three months. Always read the label.

New Boots Baby Cooling Flower Teethers are textured teething rings which can be chilled in the fridge. Suitable for children aged three months and above.

There is a multitude of products available for irritated babies bothered by the pain of teeth cutting through gums. Medical gels and natural powders can be used to directly relieve pain. Teething toys, rattles and rusks can all be physically chewed upon by the baby.

Boots Sugar Free Teething Gel is suitable for children aged three years and over. It can be applied on sore gums every three hours.

Emma tested the gel on Heidi for a week. She says: “Heidi seems to have been grouchy with her teeth since around three months, much earlier than I expected. It seems to be particularly worse in the evenings when she is trying to sleep. Sometimes she goes off to sleep but starts crying in her sleep waking up again. The fact that she is rubbing her gums with her fingers indicated to myself she had begun teething.

“I have been applying the Boots Teething Gel each night when I put Heidi in the cot just before she goes to sleep. It seems to have done the trick and she doesn’t wake up now unless she wants a bottle or nappy change.

“I would recommend the product, it has worked well with us.”

The Boots Baby Cooling Flower Teethers are a relatively new product to Boots and helpfully, there are two of them.

Emma continues: “Having two in a pack is really useful because it means there is always one clean and cool. The price of £2.49 is a bargain compared to what you are getting. Heidi uses them regularly and the petals are the right size to fit in a baby’s mouth. Great stuff.”
