SEND Practice Leadership Team Set Up By Bristol City Council

The new Bristol SEND Practice Leadership Team will be working with the parent carer forum to support a new Send project in the city

Bristol families with children and young people who have Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (Send) are being supported to bring their children back into the city for their education.

Bristol City Council says that it is working to improve support for pupils with Send, including securing more local specialist provision for those who need it.

To achieve this, the council has set up a new SEND Practice Leadership Team. The team aims to work with up to 12 families who want to move their child to a local mainstream or specialist school in Bristol.

Bristol Parent Carers (BPC) are ‘working closely’ with the council to support Send pupils have their educational needs met in their own communities ‘if that is the right choice for them’.

The SEND Practice Leadership Team will be supporting families whose children are currently in independent schools, alternative learning providers or are being educated outside of a school setting.

BPC says that they are partnering with the council’s team to ‘ensure these transitions are smooth and successful for everyone involved.’
