Skin cancer cases from sun highest in South West and South East
The state of the nation’s health has been revealed in a series of health profiles examining life expectancy and causes of death on a regional basis.
Aiming to help local health services target their resources effectively, the findings from the Department of Health show that life expectancy for men and women continues to rise whilst early deaths from killer heart disease, stroke and cancer is falling.
The figures show that residents in the sunny South West and South East have been found to suffer from higher rates of malignant melanoma skin cancer than any other regions.
Public Health Minister Anne Milton said:“Everyone should have the same chance to have a healthy life no matter where they live. I hope that this information will help clinicians, local authorities and community groups to think about what needs to be done to help make that change happen.”
