Social Media Users Continue To Post Burglar Friendly Information

An easy way to stop social media users becoming victims of burglary might be not friending criminals on Facebook.  But according to Yale research, more than a quarter of adults haven’t checked their privacy settings in more than six months.

The company polled 2000 social media users to find out more about the risk posed by posting on platforms whilst on holiday.

A 22 per cent of people admitted to posting on social media when they were out of the home such as on holiday or at events. One in 20 were happy to let people know how long their holiday was to last for.

But there are tears for ten per cent afterwards, when they realise that they’ve been the victim of a crime because of something they’ve posted.

Even the 20 per cent who are aware their bragging posts or holiday photos are compromising their home safety continue to upload despite the risk.

Yale advises using delay photo and status updates, not accepting friend requests from people you don’t know as well as avoiding location tagging.
