Stroke Association calls for walkers to join their Step Out for Stroke events
Adults living in the South West admit to owning on average 16 pairs of shoes.
Trainers are the footwear of choice, with 25 per cent in the region claiming they are the favourite.
The average price we are paying for each pair of footwear is £40, though the majority of us walk for less than 40 minutes every day.
The facts have been revealed by the Stroke Association, as part of their research into how few of us ever do any exercise.
Now it is urging people to get up and walk, by taking part in a series of special sponsored walking events taking place across the UK.
Step Out for Stroke events will be held during March 2011, with walkers being urged to become more active for their health and raise vital funds whilst doing so.
Stephen Chesworth, South West Regional Fundraising Manager at the Stroke Association is calling for people to join the charity at the planned events taking place across the UK.
He said: “Our survey shows that people in the South West have got the footwear and the appetite for walking. It’s so easy to arrange your own step out event as well, and we have all the tools you need to get started. An event like Step Out for Stroke is the perfect excuse to get out into the fresh air for an afternoon walk with friends or family and by raising the sponsorship money equivalent to the cost of one pair of shoes you can fund the research that will help the 150,000 people that have a stroke in the UK every year”.
