The Galleries in Broadmead Bristol

The Broadmead shopping centre’s clean 90s aesthetic won’t be around much longer

To many Bristolians, it doesn’t seem that over 30 years has passed since The Galleries opened in the heart of Broadmead 24 years ago this month.

The time capsule was placed beneath the main entrance of the shopping centre back in July 1989

The shopping centre will be going, making way for a development that will see homes, student accommodation, shops and restaurants in one place.

So RIP to the more affordable and often practical shops in Broadmead.

And those fabulous shapes and sharp lines of connecting escalators, stairs and all encapsulating classic 90s shopping mall architecture.
