Three million renew tax credits by post, phone and now online

More than 3 million tax credit claimants, managed to renew their benefit before the deadline this year.

And for the first time, 390,000 completed theirs online by computer, mobile phone or tablet.

More than 1.2 million used the tax credit hotline to renew and 1.3 million relied on the post.

Financial Secretary to the Treasury, David Gauke said: “I am delighted so many people have renewed on time, ensuring they get the financial help they are rightly entitled to. I’m pleased that so many took the option of renewing online via GOV.UK or through the phone app, showing HMRC is truly becoming digital by default and making services simpler and cheaper for taxpayers.”
