Young Apprenticeship Programme scrapped due to government funding cuts

Young people will no longer have the opportunity to take part in the the Young Apprenticeship  Programmes as the Government have stopped its funding.

There is a waiting list of around 1,000 people hoping to start the programme in the coming September, but the cuts mean that no new people can be taken on.

Since the scheme started in September 2005, more than 2,000 people have successfully completed the programme.

There are more than 2,000 young people between the ages of 14 and 16 currently taking part.

SkillsActive, led the  Young Apprenticeship in Sports Management, Leadership, and Coaching.

Chief Executive  Stephen Studd said: “This is a hugely disappointing decision that seems to be based on a questionable and potentially flawed report; especially when continuous evaluation has proven its value year on year. It will deprive young people of an invaluable experience that would have built their self esteem, given them a grounding in crucial leadership and employability skills.”
