Average present spend on UK children £178

UK Parents will be spending an average of £178 on presents for each child this Christmas.

Findings from the Cost of a Child study from protection specialist LV= showed parents will be spending an average of £157 on presents and an extra £21 on stocking fillers.

Despite hard times, the average spend has actually increased from £168 per child in 2010.

For children aged birth to three years, the average total spend is £133 per child.

This jumps up to £200 per child in the 4-6 years age group and to £220 in the 7-11 years.

Parents in the South West region are spending an average of £192 per child, more than those in London who are only paying £168 per child.

Parents in Northern Ireland are the most generous, spending a staggering £245 per child compared to bottom of the table East of England parents who are only spending £129.

Mark Jones, LV= Head of Protection, said: “Kids clearly come first despite tough economic times, with many parents intent on spending the same or more on their children this year. With mum and dad forking out £178 on average per child, parents are clearly keen to make Christmas as memorable as possible.”
