2010 top baby names revealed
The annual trotting out of the top baby names sees Olivia retain top spot for the girls and Oliver jump to number one for the boys.
Sophie, remains in second place, with Lily third and Emily and Ruby making up the final favourite five.
Jack has been relegated to second place, while Harry, Charlie and Alfie remain firmly in the top popular five for the boys.
The list has been compiled by parenting club Bounty, from the names given to 423,000 babies born in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland during 2010.
Spokeswoman for bounty.com, Faye Mingo said: ”Our records show that parents are continuing to be influenced by popular culture and celebrity trends.
“The remarkable rise in popularity of names such as Ollie and Florence are most probably due to the X Factor star Olly Murs and the singer from Florence and the Machine experiencing their time in the limelight.
“However, parents are looking to a wide range of sources for influence and also seem to be rediscovering more traditional, ‘old-fashioned’ names like Ava and Stanley which have been more associated with grandparents in the past.
“A recent study we ran found that one in five parents regret the names they have chosen for their children, so it’s more important than ever for parents to choose a name them and their child will love for the rest of their life.”
