Changes to GCSE Computer Science Starts This September 2018
GCSE Computer Science Course Changes
Students taking GCSE computer science will face changes to assessment from 2020, Ofqual announced today.
This change will affect students starting the subject in September this year and take their exams in two years time.
The assessment for the course will be a formal exam only, with an additional task set by their exam board which will not be formally marked.
There may be a choice of non-exam task which will support the course learning and curriculum requirements and give students the opportunity to develop their knowledge of programming.
Subject teachers will be able to use this task to make sure students’ skills and understanding are put to work in a practical context.
Chief Regulator, Sally Collier said: “We want to give teachers early notice of this decision so that that they can begin preparations ahead of the summer. We hope that this confirmation is helpful for schools and colleges in planning for the next academic year.”
