Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity sees around 16,000 dogs through its doors annually.

 

 The slogan ‘A Dog is for Life, not just for Christmas’ is 30 years old this year and in light of the fact that 131,000 dogs were given as presents in 2008, it is still as relevant as ever.

 

The charity is asking people to consider giving a different treat to doggy lovers and there is no shortage of canine themed options available in high street stores.

 

The charity also run a sponsor a dog scheme, and is a great present option for those who would love to be responsible for a dog’s welfare and future but are unable to house one themselves.

 

For £1 a week, a dog sponsor will get photos, letters and updates from their dog throughout the year.
