A Grand Day Out – Our Butlins Best Bits

There may not have been blue skies, so thank God for the Redcoats. It would be impossible to imagine anyone being bored at Butlins, as there is too much to do. To get the most out of your stay do consult the guide to what’s on. Agree the activities you want to do and if you need to split into groups do it. After settling in to your accommodation go out and get your bearings. It’s a busy place and if you hop from activity to activity you will need to know your way around.

Swimming in Splash Waterworld

Get to the Splash pool as early as possible. If you have tots then get to the early session because the pool does busy up very quickly in free sessions.

The lockers are very small, but they need to be otherwise there just wouldn’t be enough to go around. If you have a family then try using the ladies or men’s changing room where possible, as the family changing rooms just get too busy.

We were astounded by how many lifeguards they had around the pool making sure order was kept. They were really on the ball and it was good to know people were being kept watch on.

It really family friendly with a large shallow pool for tots with slides, bubbles and little areas to climb and explore. There was a large normal swimming pool which lead into the huge fun area complete with flumes, rafting, bubble pools a beach and waves.

Bob the Builder’s Yard

This was a great area for the younger children. It had fairground rides that were suitable for younger children and tots. Teacups, aeroplanes, cars, and a train ride were really popular with our group. The staff was friendly and very hard working.

The Basil Brush Show

Centre Stage is a huge venue with tables and chairs, two bars, a shop and family entertainment. It’s big enough to sit down in comfort and you can take the pram inside. We watched the Basil Brush show in a relaxed child friendly atmosphere. All weekend there were pantomimes, shows, circus acts and pop groups performing in the space.

The Sun and Moon Pub

The Sun and Moon Pub was fantastic. It was manned by top-notch staff that was quick to assist when needed. There was a good range of food, hot drinks and alcohol available at reasonable prices.

The Redcoats

How hardworking and multi-talented can some people be. We looked hard for a miserable or grumpy Redcoat and found none, which was quite disappointing. How about some goth Redcoats to even the balance?

Little Magic Train

This dance and drama session for toddlers and young children was really popular amongst the participants. The children took a magical journey on a train driven by the Redcoats. Stimulating the imagination
