Bristol Anti-Facists Out Number Right Wing Protestors
Bristol anti-fascists saw off a ‘flash’ protest by right wing group Bristol Rises this week.
An AI poster calling for ‘Antifa Scum off our Streets’ from Bristol Rises, was uploaded to Facebook community groups on Thursday ahead of the Friday evening protest.
The event, which took place on College Green, saw a coalition of anti-fascist and anti-racists groups and blocs vastly outnumber and out voice those protesting anti-facism in Bristol.
Cancer Research’s Shine Night Walk Bristol which had been scheduled to take place that evening was postponed after ‘discussions with the local authorities and the police’ to ‘ensure’ the event was a ‘safe and positive experience’.
One protestor with a large sign listing ways that Bristol Rises have hurt the city said: “Avon and Somerset Police have heavy handedly policed antifascist protest. The use violence and draconian anti-protest laws to stop anti-racists from challenging the far right.”
