Bristol Book Our City Launches This week
Our City launches at Waterstones event this week
Bristol’s ‘ill-fated’ mayoral system against the backdrop of a government austerity agenda, saw a series of campaigns rising up in the city.
Our City – Community Activism in Bristol, is a new book edited by Suzanne Audrey looking into these campaigns.
It has collected together a series of essays from activists which took place during this time.
There are over 19 specific issues covered in the book, broken down into categories of Promoting Inclusion, Community Campaigning and City Planning.
The book captures a moment in the politically turbulent history of Bristol, with campaigns including Ursa The Bear, Stoke Lodge, Bristol Send, Yew Tree Farm, The Bristol Arena and the St Mary le Port development.
Our City Community Activism in Bristol is published by Tangent Books and available to buy from 26 September 2024.
A launch will be taking place at Waterstones on Union Street in central Bristol, which will see a number of people speaking about their contribution to the book.
