Bristol CCTV Team top in country

Whether Bristol residents feel reassured by their presence, or annoyed at their intrusion into everyday life, the city council’s CCTV team has just been named top in the country.

The National CCTV User Group named Bristol City Council CCTV team as national Team of the Year out of a membership base of more than 400 organisations which includes 200 Local Authorities.

Earlier this year, the team featured in a BBC Radio 4 programme “Under Surveillance”, which found the city’s system to be highly effective.

Running for 24 hours every day of the year in Bristol and South Gloucestershire, the team are credited with logging 19,109 incidents and contacting the police on 1,835 occasions between 1 January and 31 December 2009.

Chair of the CCTV User Group, Peter Fry, said, “The service provided by Bristol CCTV team has been recognised as one of the best in the country. They are used as a national example of very good practice in the way the team is run and the services they provide”.
